Smith & Nephew Offers New Post-Operative Dressing Smith & Nephew Wound Management introduces ACTICOAT* Post-Op, a silver-coated antimicrobial barrier dressing designed to help manage infection risk following cardiothoracic, orthopedic, soft tissue, and other surgical procedures. ACTICOAT Post-Op is a unique tri-laminate dressing consisting of a proprietary perforated nanocrystalline silver wound contact layer; an absorbent hydrocellular foam layer; and a transparent, waterproof adhesive top film (IV 3000*). It provides bactericidal activity to protect against exogenous and endogenous bacterial infection. The dressing also provides excellent absorption and can be left in place for up to seven days, providing continuous antimicrobial activity while potentially reducing costs associated with multiple dressing changes. As the newest member of the ACTICOAT family of silver-coated antimicrobial barrier dressings, ACTICOAT Post-Op is formulated with SILCRYST* nanocrystalline silver technology, which explains its potent, fast-acting, and long-lasting bactericidal properties. ACTICOAT offers potent bactericidal activity against multiple strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and other pathogens that cause increasing concern in the postoperative patient. The launch of ACTICOAT Post-Op expands Smith & Nephew’s portfolio of infection management products, which includes ACTICOAT 3-day and 7-day, Absorbent, Moisture Control, and Site (for percutaneous insertion sites) as well as IODOSORB* and IODOFLEX*, two bactericidal and noncytotoxic cadexomer iodine-based wound care products. MedEfficiency Introduces Total Contact Cast System Offloading is an important but often overlooked element in the management of patients with diabetic foot ulcers. The total contact cast (TCC), long considered the gold standard in diabetic foot off-loading, provides a dynamic approach to complete immobilization, which allows the tissue to heal without being disturbed or traumatized by repetitive injury. The TCC provides a treatment modality that creates round-the-clock patient compliance but still allows for patient ambulation. The TCC is changed on a periodic basis to address the dynamic nature of the patient’s lower extremity and for wound inspection/debridement. MedEfficiency, Inc., aims to make the gold standard an easier clinical option with the introduction of the TCC-EZ Total Contact Cast System. It provides an innovative fishnet mesh cast technology to construct a one-layered cast supported by an exclusively designed outer shell that provides additional support and stability to the patient. The TCC-EZ is faster and easier to apply than the traditional Total Contact Cast System and other TCCs. MedEfficiency provides training courses that ensure proper application techniques and review of the indications/contraindications and standardized protocols.
