Clinical and Financial Strategies for the Extended Care Professional

Executive Desk:

Effective Leaders are Effective Managers, Too

Why is it that no one aspires to be a good manager these days? While good leaders are essential for galvanizing people and moving organizations forward, managers are not any less important. Managers have to get things done through others. The manager is supposed to plan, organize, coordinate, and control.

Medela Launches Wound Healing System

Medela, Inc., a global medical technology organization, announces the launch of its Invia® Healing System, a negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) system used to safely and effectively heal chronic and acute wounds. The new system’s infection-preventing dual mechanism includes antimicrobial properties and active drainage that control infection.
Medela’s new Invia Healing System includes the Medela-manufactured Vario 18 AC/DC c/i aspirator pump,

which applies a gentle negative pressure to the wound, and an advanced wound dressing kit that controls infection and promotes healing. Most NPWT systems use foam to dress the wound, but Invia includes a gauze-based dressing that is antimicrobial and designed to stop infection before it starts. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared system is also designed for easy application to minimize nursing time and patient discomfort as well as expedite the healing process. Invia can be used to heal various types of wounds, including diabetic/neuropathic and pressure wounds; chronic, acute, and dehisced wounds; partial-thickness burns; and flaps and grafts.
“We’re committed to improving the health and life of patients by offering the market increased choice with competitively priced, high-quality, research-based products,” says Bernie Laurel, Vice President, Medela Healthcare Americas. The Invia Healing System will be available to the acute care market first followed by extended care, long-term care, and home care.
