Clinical and Financial Strategies for the Extended Care Professional

Executive Desk:

Effective Leaders are Effective Managers, Too

Why is it that no one aspires to be a good manager these days? While good leaders are essential for galvanizing people and moving organizations forward, managers are not any less important. Managers have to get things done through others. The manager is supposed to plan, organize, coordinate, and control.

Industry and Product News:
DeRoyal Launches On Line Custom Procedural Tray Management Tool

-

DeRoyal introduces the first comprehensive hospital web-based supply management software designed to control operating room custom procedural tray programs.
The new healthcare software program named CPT Optimizer, demonstrated April 23-26 at AORN 2002 in Anaheim, California, offers instant on line access to information relating to inventory, quoting, and tray standardization in five critical areas. These areas include tray inventory, internet quoting, functionally equivalent analysis (low-cost substitutions), best practice solutions, and procedure management.
A live, demonstration version of CPT Optimizer is currently available at no cost on the DeRoyal website (www.deroyal.com) for any facility or clinician not currently purchasing trays from DeRoyal who would like to explore its capabilities.
The on line data provided by the CPT Optimizer system offers current manufacturing information on CPTs updated daily, inventory modifications, and complete supply chain visibility, including distributor on-hand quantities. CPT Optimizer also connects directly to the sales operation between DeRoyal and the user to show instant on line inventory at any time to help eliminate and reduce back orders.
The CPT Optimizer's internet quoting feature offers access to viewing tray bills of materials. It also allows the user to create from scratch, modify, or change the bill of materials at any given time. In addition, OR and materials managers can input "what if" financial analysis scenarios to arrive at the best optimum cost and functional levels for their specific and unique needs.
The best practice analysis feature provides an automated means to standardize trays within a hospital or throughout a hospital network. The CPT Optimizer identifies the optimal number of trays, determines the specific component configuration, and calculates the aggregate and procedural savings. Also, the system compares the bills of materials to DeRoyal's low-cost line of standard trays.
CPT Optimizer's functionally equivalent analysis offers the ability to visually examine lower-cost, nonsterile products for substitute purposes. The user simply highlights a tray and the product in question. The software program then delivers a list of lower-cost alternatives for that tray. OR and material managers also can keyword search the entire database of DeRoyal's product line.
The procedure management features of the CPT Optimizer program analyzes consumption data from a hospital's OR information system and prepares standardization and utilization reports. Analysis of surgeon and procedure cost trends coupled with standardization reviews are key to CPT Optimizer's on-going supply expenditure reductions.
