Clinical and Financial Strategies for the Extended Care Professional

Executive Desk:

Effective Leaders are Effective Managers, Too

Why is it that no one aspires to be a good manager these days? While good leaders are essential for galvanizing people and moving organizations forward, managers are not any less important. Managers have to get things done through others. The manager is supposed to plan, organize, coordinate, and control.

Liko Introduces New Patient Lifts

-

Liko Inc. has introduced an entire new family of general-purpose mobile lifts. Designated the “Viking Series,” the new mobile lifts are designed to accommodate the needs of a broad range of lifting situations, patient sizes, and medical conditions.
Four separate models are available—small, medium, large, and extra large—to enable easy matching of lift size and capacity to patient size and condition. The flexibility of the lifts, use of common spare parts, and identical operating procedures all contribute to simplifying the purchase, improving caregiver effectiveness, and reducing overall costs.
Among the key features of the Viking Series is their ease of operation. User-friendly hand controls, large wheels, and simple base width adjustments help to ensure optimal maneuverability and positioning. A built-in battery charger allows the lift to be recharged at any wall socket while not in use. Safety features, such as the sling bar latches and safe emergency lowering devices, help to prevent injuries to both patients and staff.
Optional pivoting arm rests can easily be added for ambulation, gait training, or enhanced caregiver maneuvering leverage. The pivoting arm rests can help enable a qualified nurse or therapist to evaluate the patient’s ambulatory independence and institute rehabilitative measures if necessary.
Liko also supplies a selection of patient slings and lifting accessories in a variety of styles, sizes, and materials of construction—all of which are compatible with Viking Series lifts. All slings and fasteners are designed for patient safety and easy operation. Slings are designed to handle virtually any patient size or medical condition, including transfers between bed and wheelchair or to and from toilet or bathtub, lifting from the floor, weighing patients in the lift, lifting with a horizontal stretcher, and repositioning patients.
